Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, a priest was killed after being run over by a new pick-up van while performing puja of the vehicle in Durkajodi under Mathili Police limits in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Chaturbhuja Mohanty of Netalagandhi village in the district.
According to reports, one Trinath Pujari of Durkajodi village purchased a Bolero Pick-up van and brought it to his village two days back. He called Mahanty, a renowned priest in the area, to perform a puja of the new vehicle today.
While perming the puja, the priest had placed lemons under the wheels of the vehicle and asked the owner to run them over. However, the driver, who happens to be the son of the vehicle owner, couldn’t control the steering and ran over the priest.
Mohanty was rushed to Mathili hospital but the doctor declared him brought dead.
A case has been registered at Mathili Police Station in this connection.
