PIL in Orissa High Court on limiting number of guests to 100 in social gatherings

Cuttack: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Orissa High Court on the number of guests that can be invited for a social gathering.

According to reports, a PIL in Orissa High Court on guests at social gatherings such as marriages and birthdays has been filed.

A public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court to ban expensive display in weddings, birthdays, thread ceremonies and death rituals. The petitioner Parshuram Biswal in this case has prayed that the number of guests in any social gathering should be limited to one hundred (100).

The petitioner in this public interest litigation has prayed that the state government should come up with guidelines to limit the number of invited guests to 100 when organizing a wedding or any such social gathering or party for the general public, especially those living below the poverty line.

The petitioner has further stated that the poor and middle class families would benefit a lot from this restriction.

It is worth mentioning that, the Chief Administrative Secretary, Culture and Public Relations Department Secretary, Special Relief Commissioner and Law Secretary of the State government have been made parties in this public interest case filed by Parshuram Biswal of Indupur area in Jajpur district of Odisha.
