Over 23 lakh children in the age of 15-18 eligible for Covid vaccination in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as 23,65,000 children in the age group of 15-18 are eligible for Covid vaccination in Odisha, informed Health and Family Welfare Director, Bijay Panigrahi on Thursday.

Reportedly, the central government has listed the beneficiary list as the vaccination is scheduled to begin on January 3, 2022. Accordingly, the registration for children’s vaccination will commence from January 1.

The children will be taking jabs of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin Covid vaccine, said reports. Around 14 lakh doses of the Covid vaccine are currently available. Hence, all the districts have been instructed to open vaccination centers as and when needed. If necessary, vaccination centers will also be opened in schools.

Panigrahi also said that all the children will be vaccinated within a month if they get vaccinated at the right time. The vaccination center will be opened for children aged 15-18 in the morning slot while others will get the jabs in the second half.

The Health Department has recommended that the parents come along with children during vaccination. Similarly, 10,47,400 beneficiaries over the age of 60 and those with comorbidity will be receiving the precaution dose. A total of 7,05,000 front liners will also take the precaution dose from January 10, 2022.

However, for senior citizens and those with comorbidity, it is yet to be decided which vaccine would be administered.
