Odisha Panchayat Polls: New reservation list published

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has published the new reservation list at the block level for the upcoming Panchayat Polls in the State.

Reportedly, the list of reservations for ward members, sarpanch, committee members, and block chairpersons has been released.

According to the notification, all the sarpanch in the 7 tribal-dominated districts and block chairman position is reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. In the rest 23 districts, among the 195 blocks as many as 54 posts of block chairperson reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.

Similarly, out of the 4697 panchayats in the 23 districts, the sarpanch post in 1161 panchayats are reserved for the SC category.

The public can be able to file an objection related to the list by January 3, 2022. Following this, the objections will be taken into consideration and the hearing will be held on January 5 and the final list will be submitted to the Election Commission on January 7.

The Election Commission will call for an all-party meeting to discuss the final date of the Panchayat Election.

It is to be noted that Odisha Election Commission on the exercise of powers vested on it by Article 243 K of the Constitution of India and Panchayat Acts and Rules prescribed a Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Panchayat polls in the State.
