Odisha Panchayat election: BJD candidate elected uncontested as Zilla Parishad member

Bargarh: The State ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has won a Zilla Parishad seat in Bargarh district ahead of the beginning of the Panchayat election in Odisha.

According to reports, BJD candidate, Kalpana Pradhan, has been reportedly elected uncontested as Zilla Parishad member from Ambabhona Block Zone-2 of the district. This was announced by Sub-Collector.

Kalpana elected uncontested after her opponent candidates from both BJP & Congress withdrew their nominations. Binodini Rai of BJP and Padmini Bhoi of Congress had filed their nominations to fight against Kalpana. However, both of them withdrew their nominations from the Sub-Collector.

Notably, over 2.79 crore voters will exercise their franchise to elect 91,913 ward members, 6,794 Sarpanches, 6,793 Panchayat Samiti members, and 853 Zilla Parishad members during this Panchayat polls in Odisha which will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24. The votes will be counted and results will be declared on February 26, 27, and 28.
