Malkangiri: A man was allegedly killed under suspicion of practicing sorcery at Udaygiri village ,one of the cut-off areas under Padia police limits in Malkangiri district.
The deceased has been identified as Baga Kabasi,
Sources said, some villagers called him out of his house yesterday and attacked him with sharp weapons, he died on the spot. The family alleged that they took him around 400 metres away to the village crematorium where they burnt his body.
Yesterday, the family members of Baga Kabasi approached the police seeking protection and filed an FIR.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident and police has reportedly started a probe into the matter.
Later, some people have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the incident.
Some locals have alleged sorcery practice by Baga for quite sometime in the village and they were unsatifised with his practice.
It is suspected that someone has killed Baga in a pre-planned manner, informs Ranjan Kumar Majhi, in-charge of Padia police station.
