Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today sanctioned damage assistance to the tune of Rs 2,770 for cyclone-Titli and the subsequent flood hit districts of the state.
Informing on the approval after a meeting of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority here this noon, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said, “The memorandum of Rs 2,770 crore of damages which had been tabled after the occurrence of the natural calamity got a nod today. That apart other funds which were distributed for the relief and restoration work earlier were also approved,” he added.
The meeting which was chaired by Chief Secretary AP Padhi also approved the first instalment of Gratuitous Relief distribution of Rs 102 crore to affected people in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada. The amount had been given to the Collectors of the concerned districts. After the distribution of the first instalment, the rest amount from a total amount of Rs 375 crore will be deposited to the bank accounts of the victims.
Other funds sanctioned to various departments currently undertaking repair and restoration works in the affected areas were also got approval during the meeting. Funds for Energy Department (Rs 27 crore), Foods and Civil Supplies Department (Rs 20 crore) for dry foods, Water Resources Department (Rs 7 crore) for repair work of lift irrigation point, Works Department (Rs 50crore), Rural Development Department (Rs 55 crore) were also sanctioned. Notably, Panchayati Raj Department has already been given Rs 624 crore for repair of roads, Anganwadi Centres and Primary Health Centres along with Rs 2 crore for Veterinary Department for loss of livestock.
During the meeting, directions were also given to the concerned authorities to provide the Crop damage assessment of the affected districts within a period of two days, said the SRC.
