Odia Music Director Shanatanu Mohapatra No More

Bhubaneswar: Legendary Odia music director Shantanu Mohapatra passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar late last night. He was 84.

Mohapatra was suffering from acute pneumonia and kidney related ailments and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

He was associated with Odia music industry for almost 60 years. He composed first modern Odia ballad “Konark Gatha” with lyrics by lyricist Gurukrushna Goswami and sung by Akshay Mohanty. He also penned down “Kalijae” which was sung by Sikandar Alam.

He also worked with Bollywood artists like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, Manna Dey, Usha Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadekar and many other people  in the industry.

Mohapatra was born in November, 1936 in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district. By profession, Mohapatra was a geophysicist (an IIT-Kharagpur pass-out) and has also worked with Odisha Mining Corporation.
