Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced compensation for the family of miners who died in the landslide at the open cast mine of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) in Bharatpur on Tuesday.
The CM announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased persons in the incident.
The accident occurred between 11 pm-11:30 pm on Tuesday when a portion of earth broke loose trapping 13 workers and machinery at work. Rescuers were able to rescue nine workers from the site.
Bodies of two workers have been recovered till now while rescue operation to trace the other two workers is still underway.
