Mayurbhanj: Asst Manager, TPNODL, Bangiriposhi section in Vigilance net

Baripada: Tightening the noose around the neck of corrupt officials, Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday trapped the Assistant Manager of TPNODL, Bangiriposhi section while he was accepting Rs 10,000 bribe. Rs. 1.5 lakh cash also recovered from him and seized.

Today Jagannath Behera, Assistant Manager, TPNODL, Bangiriposhi Section, Dist-Mayurbhanj has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) from a complainant (contractor) for issuance of work completion certificate in connection with supply of electricity to market complex at Laxmiposhi, Dist-Mayurbhanj.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today wherein the accused was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance in front of Radha Krishna temple, Bangiriposhi while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.10,000 from the complainant.

The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Behera and seized in presence of witnesses. At the same time, another hard cash rupees 1.5 lakh was also recovered and seized from the possession of Behera at the spot which is being verified by the Vigilance Officers.

Right hand wash of Behera gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Behera at Bangiriposhi and his house at native village Baripada.

In this connection, Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.2 Dt. 01.02.2022 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.

In another case today Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer (JE), office of BDO, Talcher, Dist-Angul was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Angul for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs.2,10,72,269/-, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

The Court has remanded him to judicial custody till 14.02.2022. In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance P.S. Case No.8 dt.31.01.2022 was registered against Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, JE and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) /12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer (JE) simultaneous house searches were conducted at 4 places in Angul and Dhenkanal district yesterday by 4 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 4 DSsP, 8 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.

During searches, the following assets have been unearthed; 1) One double storeyed building at Kumunda and one single storeyed building at Ambapal both under PS-Angul Sadar, Dist-Angul. 1) 4 plots including 3 plots at Kumunda and 1 plot at Ambapal in Angul district. 2) Bank deposits including Fixed deposits worth Rs.1,11,71,285/-in name of Sahoo, his spouse and his family members. 3) 1 four wheeler (Hyundai i20 Active). 4) 4 two wheelers. 5) Insurance deposits worth Rs.12,56,515/-. 6) Gold ornaments weighing 261 gms worth Rs.10,44,000/- and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 2.26 Crore.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, JE were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs.2,10,72,269/-(Rupees Two Crore Ten Lakh Seventy-two Thousand Two Hundred Sixty-nine) which constituted 680% of his known sources of income. Investigation of the case is in progress.
