Martyred Odia jawan Hemant Panda cremated with full state honour

Khordha: The last rites of Hemant Panda, the martyred Odia jawan of Khordha district, were performed at his native village with full state honour here today.

The mortal remains of Panda were consigned to the flames with Guard of Honour from the armed force with hundreds of people gathering and offering floral tribute to the departed soul in Atharang village under Begunia in the morning.

Notably, 24-year-old Hemant had joined the service three years ago and got his first appointment in Rajasthan. He returned to his village three months ago on a holiday before joining on the new posting in Jammu & Kashmir recently.

However, he sustained bullet injury during an encounter between militants and security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Republic Day.
