Elderly man trampled to death by wild pachyderm

Khordha: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in the state, an elderly man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Goda village under Begunia police limits in the district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Jambeshwar Champati.

Jambeshwar was on his way to attend the call of nature to a nearby field early this morning, when the mishap took place. A wild elephant which had sneaked into the village to graze on crop field, trampled the victim after chasing him for a distance. He died on the spot.

Tension ran high in the village following the incident as locals demanded compensation for the kin of the deceased. They also blamed forest officials’ negligence for the unfortunate incident.

Begunia Police reached the spot and rushed the body for post-mortem.
