Man electrocuted to death during flag lowering ceremony in Odisha

Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident, a man was electrocuted to death in Umerkote of the district this evening. The national flag was hoisted during the 70th Republic Day celebration today.

The deceased has been identified as Kalu Harijan (38).

According to reports, Harijan, who was working as a labourer, was rushed to the Umerkote hospital in a critical condition after he came in contact with an 11KV live wire during the flag-lowering ceremony at Umerkote Mini-stadium. However, Harijan breathed his last while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Tension prevailed in the area as locals staged demonstration alleging that the incident took place due to the negligence of the local government officials. They also demanded stringent action against the accused and adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased worker.
