Malkangiri: In a big blow to Red rebels during their observation of ‘PLGA Week’ in the state, a hard core woman Maoist laid down her arm before Malkangiri Police today.
The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Ide Madi was a member of the Kalimela Area Committee, Malkangiri Division under the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of CPI (Maoist). She was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head which had been announced by the Odisha Government.
Madi (23) surrendered before Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena expressing resentment over Maoist activities. Frequent anti-Maoist opertions conducted by the security forces in the interior areas of Kalimela, developmental activities by the government and the realization of futility of the armed revolt were other cause of her surrender, she informed.
Notably, Madi was involved in killing of five persons during 2017-2018 during Maoist operations.
She will be rehabilitated as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation scheme of the State Government. She shall also get monetary assistance for house, studies and training in a trade or vocation of her liking, said police.
