Gujarat, HP results will not impact Odisha: Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: Soon after the elections results of two states came out on Monday, in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power in Gujarat for sixth straight term and won Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and congratulated them over their remarkable victory in these states.

However, Patnaik on Tuesday told media persons here that results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh would have no impact in Odisha.

“I see no impact in Odisha of all these,” said the Chief Minister here on Tuesday when asked whether the elections results of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will impact in Odisha.

The BJD supremo also told that the anti-incumbency factor will not affect the BJD in the next general elections in the state or the upcoming Bijepur by-poll.

“I don’t feel the BJD will face any anti-incumbency because of our development programme and welfare schemes which are doing well in the state,” the Chief Minister said.

On the other hand, BJP leader and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “The Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections outcome would have a significant political impact in Odisha in 2019 general polls”.

BJP President  Amit Shah, during his last Odisha tour in September, had shown confidence  and said that the saffron party would win at least 120 MLA seats out of total 147 constituency segments in the state in 2019 general elections, and form the BJP government with a two third majority.
