Ganja worth lakhs seized from ambulance in Malkangiri, driver held

Malkangiri: Continuing with its crackdown on illegal drug trade in the district, Malkangiri Police on Friday seized an ambulance carrying ganja worth lakhs from Khiraput area and arrested the driver.

The held driver is yet to be identified by police.

The illegal drug deal came to fore after a patrolling party of Mudulipada Police tried to intercept an ambulance near Mathili due to its suspicious movement. The ambulance was trying to cross the Mathili-Khiraput bypass road. While the driver tried to escape with the vehicle from the spot he lost control over the wheels causing it to skid off the road.

The patrolling team recovered at least three sacks of ganja from the ambulance and seized them. Later it took the driver into custody.

An investigation is underway in the case.

Notably, a spurt in ganja incidents of ganja transport has been seen in past few months. In a similar case, police had seized around 123 kg of ganja from a fake ambulance at Govindapalli area and held two persons on July 5 this year.
