Puri: Continuing its crackdown on history-sheeters in the religious town, Puri Police nabbed dreaded criminal Rashmi Ranjan Panda alias ‘Gedu’ following an encounter at Talabania late last night.
As per the report, Gedu who was on police’s radar over his involvement in firing case earlier yesterday near Kumutipatna area was traced near Talabania area late in the night and police rushed to the spot.
However, in a bid to escape from the spot, the accused opened fire at cops and sustained bullet injury on his left leg in retaliation. He was caught subsequently.
While the held criminal was rushed to Puri DHH initially, he was later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.
Police have registered a case against the held criminal and are trying to trace his associates.
