Baripada: Property worth lakhs were gutted and a number of egg hatching machines reduced to ashes after a massive fire broke out in a poultry research centre located in Chhatna under Rasagobindapur block of Mayurbhanj district today.
As per the report, sparks erupted in the hatchery unit of one Venco Breeding and Research Farm Private Limited this morning while egg hatching was underway spread to the whole centre in quick time.
Fire brigade teams from Chitrada and Rasagobindapur rushed to the spot after getting intimation on the mishap and brought the flames under control, but till then at least 6 egg hatching machines and eggs worth over Rs 1 cr had been lost to the fire.
While the exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire officials, an electric short circuit is being suspected behind it.
