Cyclone warning: Odisha SRC writes to collectors, advises to stay alert

Bhubaneswar: In view of the forecast of a low-pressure area forming over the South Andaman Sea on November 30 and intensifying into a cyclonic storm by December first week, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena has advised the district Collectors to stay alert.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada from 8.30 AM of December 2 to up to 8.30 AM of December 3.

In the wake of the IMD’s forecast, the SRC has written letters to the collectors asking them to monitor the situation closely and take action as necessary in case of any eventuality.

Besides, they have been directed to reports of details of the incident promptly.

Likewise, a warning also has been issued for the fishermen. They have been asked not to venture into the sea for fishing as squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 50.60 kmph gusting upto 70 kmph likely over west central Bay of Bengal from December 2.
