Couple critical in wild bear attack in Nuapada

Nuapada: In yet another incident of human animal conflict in the state, a couple sustained critical injury after being mauled by an Indian sloth bear in Haladigaon village today.

The injured have been identified as Chhabilal Pandey and his wife Bhaga Pandey.

As per the report, Chhabilal along with his wife had gone to attend nature’s call near their home early this morning when the predator attack took place. The sloth bear which had sneaked into the village in search of food last night pounced on them and left critically hurt.

Some neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the screams and rescued the couple. They were later rushed Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Forest officials arrived at the spot later and launched efforts to drive away the bear from human habitat.
