BMC Identifies 37 Locations In Bhubaneswar For Waterlogging

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 37 vulnerable points across the city and has chalked out a detailed programme to tackle waterlogging in the state capital.

The civic body has also notified a list of designated officers for the 37 locations to ensure the pre-positioning of the pump sets before the rainy season. The officials will also be responsible for the smooth management of the de-watering exercise in case of heavy rainfall in their localities.

BMC officials said that 18 pumps will be deployed by the civic body while Odisha Fire Service will provide 19 pump sets. “The cleaning and de-silting of drainage channels have reached the final stage,” said a BMC official.  The city has as many as 10 drainage channels which carry the loads to Gangua Nullah.

“The designated officials of BMC are keeping a sharp vigil over the low-lying and vulnerable areas inside the city and outskirts. The Odisha Fire Services personnel will also be in contact for any kind of emergency due to heavy rains,” said a BMC official.
