BMC Starts Validating List Of Street Vendors Affected By Fani

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started validating the list of street vendors as per the survey conducted during 2015-16 for making a database for providing assistance aftermath of cyclone Fani.

The process will continue for five to six days and the vendors will be provided with an assistance of Rs 10000 each after the validation process.

The assistance of Rs 10000 will be given to Fani-affected vendors through direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode to sustain their livelihood as they were severely affected in Fani.

BMC officials said that the city had as many as 21483 street vendors as per the previous survey.  The validation has started across several wards in presence of Ward Officers, Community Organisers and also the office-bearers of the vending zones in respective wards.

The civic body so far has given Rs 2500 cash each to 92721 beneficiaries with ration cards out of 104814 available beneficiaries across the city as per the package declared by the chief minister for Fani affected people. Similarly, the BMC so far has distributed 50 kg rice each to 1lakh people in the state capital.
