Daringbadi: Demanding CBI probe into the mysterious death of a local youth and immediate arrest of the miscreants, hundreds of people from Bamunigaon Gram Panchayat staged a demonstration at Hatapada (village market) in Bamunigaon under Daringbadi Block, Kandhamal district on Tuesday.
They staged the demonstration under the banner of Antaranga Yubak Sangha and Peace Committee to protest the inaction of the local police in connection with the alleged murder of a village youth.They alleged that the local police has failed to identify the miscreants even after four days of the the alleged murder of one Akash Singh.
Prasant Nayak, Secretary of the Antarnaga Yubak Sangha and Chitrasen Patra, President of Peace Committee alleged that criminal activities including robbery, rape and murder in the area has increased in the last two years as the local police does not conduct night patrolling.
Later, they held a rally from Hatapada to the local police station and submitted a memorandum with seven point-charter of demands to Daringbadi Additional Tehsildar Sunil Kumar Pradhan. Baliguda SDPO D.P.R Patnaik and other senior officials were present too.
The protesters also threatened to intensify their agitation if the police fails to identify and arrest the miscreants within 15 days.
On the other hand, Bamunigaon police station IIC Pradip Kumar Choudhary claimed that investigation into the matter is on. A case under Section 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code has been filed.
The next course of action will be decided based on the postmortem report which is yet to be out, he added. Meanwhile, police has started interrogating some local youths suspecting their link in the crime.
Notably, Akash Singh of Alanguri village, who was staying in Bamunigaon along with his parents for several years was founddead on December 24. His body was recovered from a well under mysterious circumstances.
