Berhampur: Tightening the noose around the necks of corrupt officials in Ganjam district, Vigilance sleuths yesterday arrested an assistant engineer of Khalikote Electricity Division for demanding bribe from a lineman.
The accused official has been identified as Basant Patnaik.
As per the charge against Patnaik, he had demanded Rs 20000 bribe from the lineman namely Bibekananda Naik of Keshpur village to pass his transfer application a few days back. Finding him unable to pay the amount Naik knocked the doors of the anti-corruption department later.
After laying a trap, the officials yesterday caught the accused assistant engineer red-handed while accepting the money from the complainant on Khallikote-Keshpur road.
