Anti-Smuggling Guard of Balasore CSO office in Vigilance net

Balasore: Tightening its noose around the neck of corrupt officials the Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested the anti-smuggling Guard of the Civil Supplies Office (CSO) in Balasore who is at present Posted to Rice Receiving Centre (RRC)-cum-District Storage Centre (DSC), Jaleswar in Balasore district for possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

The accused has been identified as Janardan Palei.

Palei was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of  the Special Judge Vigilance, Balasore.

In this connection, Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.16 dt.25.06.2022 was registered against Janardan Palei, Anti-Smuggling Guard and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Janardan Palei simultaneous house searches were conducted yesterday at 5 places in Balasore and Ganjam districts by 5 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 4 DSsP, 5 Inspectors and other staff conducted the search on the strength of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.1.4 Crore as detailed below have been unearthed in the name of Janardan Palei, Anti Smuggling Guard and his family members;

1) 12 plots including 11 plots in prime area of Jaleswar and 1 plot in Chhatrapur. The Registered Sale Deed (RSD) value comes to about Rs.15.18 Lakh.

2) Double storeyed building at Jaleswar over plot No.36(36/480) measuring area Ac 0.056 decimal having built up area 3300 Sqft worth Rs.40 Lakh.

3) Chandan Hotel at Nahanajore Mauza, Jaleswar, Balasore on NH-60 over plot No.1050 measuring an area of Ac 0.05 decimal with built up area 2800 Sqft worth over Rs.13.57 Lakh.

4) Postal, Bank & Insurance deposits worth over Rs.55.16 Lakh.

5) Cash, Gold jewelry & household articles worth over Rs.10.4 Lakh.

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Janardan Palei were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which constituted 226% of his known sources of income.

Further investigation of the case is in progress.
