6 killed, 1 injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Sundergarh/Bhadrak/Dhenkanal: At least six persons were killed and one sustained critical injury in separate road mishaps which struck different districts of the state since last night.

In the first incident, at least three persons including two women were killed after a car they were traveling in to Biramitrapur from Sambalpur was hit by a speeding truck on Biju Expressway near Jarangloi village in Sundergarh district at around 11 pm last night. Another woman also sustained injury in the crash.

The deceased have been identified as Sajjan Agrawal, Urmila Devi and Nirmala Devi. The injured namely Sangeeta Agrawal was rushed to Sundergarh DHH immediately.

In a similar incident in Bhadrak district a biker namely Mohammed Salim of Banta area was killed after his vehicle was hit by an unknown vehicle on NH-16 near Barikpur Bazar later in the night. He was returning from Bhandaripokhari area after some work.

Dhamnagar Police has seized the body of the deceased for autopsy.

In Dhenknal, a private school bus mowed down a youth in front of the Veterinary Hospital located near Caltax Chhak. The victim identified as Kailash Chandra Pradhan of Patarpada village was riding a TVS Scooty pillion when the mishap took place.

In Soro also, a biker was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Chandanpur on Kupari-Ranital road last night. The deceased identified as Narahari Rana of Manitri village was returning home from work when the accident occurred.

Angry locals staged a road blockade at the spot by burning tyres later in the night protesting the incident. They also intercepted a Bhubaneswar bound bus namely ‘Chakadola’ near the accident site on suspicion of its involvement in the accident.

Local police and tehsildar pacified the mob after reaching the spot, later in the morning.
