Phulbani: Police rescued at least two tribal girls from Daringbadi bus stand last night while they were being trafficked to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and arrested one person in connection with the case.

The arrested pimp has been identified as Naushad Ali, a resident of Malda area in neighbouring West Bengal State.

A team of Daringbadi Police led by IIC Tusharkanti Mohapatra conducted the raid at the bus stand after getting tip-off on the trafficking at around 8 PM in the night. During the raid two girls, one from Saniketa panchayat and the other from Kartamaha panchayat, were found waiting to board a bus to Andhra Pradesh. Police rescued the girls and took Naushad who was accompanying them into custody immediately.

“The accused was on police’s radar for past few months. He was residing in Mucheri village and busy in trafficking tribal girls to Andhra Pradesh on the pretext of providing them jobs,” said Mohapatra.
