Sambalpur: At least two school students died after drowning in Chipilima Power Channel in Chanrapur area in the district on Friday.
The deceased duo has been identified as Suman Das of Kuluthkani and Sumit Dalai of Bada Bazar areas. Both the victims were students of Chipilima Sri Maa Aurobindo School.
As per the report, Suman and Sumit went to the power channel located near Chipilima hydro-power plant to take bath while returning from tuition in the morning, following which the mishap took place. It is suspected that, both the victims were swept away by the water after losing balance and slipping into the channel while bathing.
After some locals witnessed the drowning and called up police, the later fished out the bodies of the deceased from the channel with the help of firefighters later in the morning.
The bodies have been rushed to the Sambalpur DHH for autopsy and a case has been lodged in connection with the incident.
