2 killed, 2 critical as ambulance hits stationary truck

Soro: At least two persons were killed and two others sustained critical injury after an ambulance carrying a patient smacked into a stationary truck near BSNL office in Uttareshawara on NH-16 in Balasore district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as the patient Bulbul Biwi and his brother Sheikh Iko. The injured are Fatima Biwi and Ijaz.

The mishap took place hours after Sheikh and two others in his family set out for SCB Medical College and Hospital carrying his sister Bulbul in an ambulance from her native village Amdeipur in neighbouring West Bengal at around 1.30 AM. Bulbul was suffering from brain tumor. Driver of the vehicle failed to spot a truck standing near BSNL office in Uttareshwara and ended up dashing against it from rear. While Sheikh and Bulbul died on the spot following the crash, Fatima and Ijaz turned critical.

Soro Police and local fire brigade team rescued the injured from the mangled ambulance reaching the spot and rushed them to Soro CHC. They were later shifted to SCB Medical College due to deteriorating condition.

Meanwhile, Balasore Collector, Sub-Collector have reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

The driver of the ambulance is absconding after the mishap.
