Cuttack: At least two houses along with a number of haystacks were gutted in a massive fire which broke out in Raghunath Nagar village under Mahanga tehsil in Cuttack district last night.
Sparks erupted late in the night at around 12 o’clock at one Deepak Behera’s house in the village and engulfed one Bijay Behera’s house located in the neighbourhood in a short span.
Till the victim families woke up and launched firefighting efforts on their own the blaze had reduced at least two houses to ashes completely.
Later, Kuanpal Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
Locals have demanded financial assistance from the district administration for those who had been rendered homeless in the fire.
