Puri: Launching a crackdown of illegal hemp trade in the district, Excise officials today seized ganja weighing 1.5 quintal and arrested one peddler by conducting a raid in Goudasahi of Panchagochhia area in Brahamgiri block here today.
The held youth has been identified as Purnachandra Dey.
The raid was conducted by the flying squad of Puri Excise unit following a tip-off on a ganja consignment in Brahmagiri area this morning. While Dey was caught from the spot with the consignment by the officials, another peddler managed to give them a slip.
The seized hemp would cost over Rs 7 lakh, said an Excise Department source.
Further investigation is underway in the case.
