In recent news, Zimbabwe coach Dave Houghton has resigned from his position of head coach, effective immediately. Houghton stated that Zimbabwe’s failure to qualify the T20 World Cup led to this decision.

Notably, Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 to Namibia and Uganda. After the team failed to qualify via Africa Region Qualifier, the cricket team of Zimbabwe formed a three member committee to look into the reasons behind the qualification failure. It is noteworthy mentioning that the committee was chaired by Lloyd Mhisi.

Dave Houghton reportedly handed his resignation letter to the Zimbabwe Cricket Board on Wednesday. As the buzz has it, another interim coach will be assigned in Houghton’s place for Zimbabwe’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Dave Houghton will remain associated with the Zimbabwe Cricket team. He will potentially be reassigned to a new and different role in the organization. In an official statement the Zimbabwe Cricket also pointed out that they have ended things with Dave Houghton on good terms.

ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said that Houghton leaves the team with a ton of thanks from the others for his efforts throughout. He even mentioned that the board looks forward to work with him in a different sector in the future. Mukuhlani also called Houghton as the “legend of our game.”
