Tokyo Paralympics 2021: Nishad Kumar wins silver, Vinod Kumar bags bronze medal

Tokyo: India’s para-athletes Nishad Kumar and Vinod Kumar won the silver and bronze medals respectively in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics Games today.

Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in the high jump event. He made a jump of 2.06m and set an Asian record. Roderick Townsend of USA won the gold medal with a jump of 2.15m while Dallas Wise shared the second spot with Nishad.

Likewise, Vinod Kumar also won the bronze medal in Discus Throw F52 event. He clinched the medal with an effort of 19.91m in the final. With this, he set a new Asian record.

Poland’s Piotr Kosewicz bagged gold medal with a best attempt of 20.02ma and Croatian athlete Velimir Šandor pocketed the silver medal by registering the best effort of 19.98m.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the nation in congratulating the para-athletes for making the country proud.

With Nishad and Vinod’s medal, the medal-tally of India in the Tokyo Paralympics Games rose to three. Earlier today, star paddler Bhavinaben Patel won a silver in women’s singles table tennis class 4.
