Remembering Sunil Gavaskar’s legacy as he celebrates 74th birthday

Sunil Gavaskar is considered as one of the best cricket players India has ever had. Apart from being a legendary batsman, Gavaskar has also been playing the role of a commentator efficiently. Affectionately, he has earned himself the title of ‘Little Master’.

On the occasion of Sunil Gavaskar’s birthday, let us remember all of his contributions to the Indian cricket team, on his 74th birthday. Throughout his terrific journey, Gavaskar has set multiple records.

Sunil Gavaskar is the first Indian player to remain not-out throughout the innings of a test match. He earned this feather while playing against Pakistan in 1987 in Faisalabad. He also holds the record of scoring highest runs scored in a test series by any Indian batsman.

Sunil Gavaskar is the first player to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket in the year 1987. This score fetched by him included 34 centuries and 45 half-centuries. His record for scoring the highest number of centuries remained unsurpassed for a very long. The record was broken in 2005 by Sachin Tendulkar. Currently, Gavaskar stands as the third highest test run-scorer ever.

One of Gavaskar’s unforgettable performances includes a match against West Indies, where he scored 774 runs in just eight innings. this score included four centuries and one double century as well. He was also an important part of India’s historic world cup winning squad, back in 1983.

Apart from all of this, Gavaskar is the first Indian fielder who has claimed over 100 catches in Tests. During his Test career, he has taken approximately 108 catches.
