Port of Spain: Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan expressed gratitude towards his teammate Rishabh Pant after scoring his first Test fifty against West Indies on Sunday. Kishan revealed that he had a helpful conversation with Pant at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before the series began.

Pant had been recovering from a serious car accident that occurred on December 30, 2022. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) closely monitored his rehabilitation, reporting significant progress last week.

On the fourth day of the second Test, Kishan played a delightful innings against the West Indies. Speaking after the day’s play, Kishan thanked Pant, stating that they both had a chat at the NCA where the latter provided valuable advice on his batting techniques and bat position.

“We have played together since U-19, so he knows how I play and what my mindset is. Rishabh helped me with my bat position and shared some valuable insights. I wanted someone to guide me on my batting, and I’m really thankful to him for taking the time to chat with me,” said Kishan.

Starting the day at 229 for 5, the West Indies team seemed promising, but they lost their last five wickets for just 26 runs. India set a challenging victory target of 365 with a lead of 183.

In response, West Indies ended the day at 76 for 2, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood at the crease. They will resume on the final day requiring 289 runs for victory.

However, the weather may play a crucial role in determining the match’s outcome on Monday as there is an 80 per cent chance of rain during the daytime, as per reports.
