India will be ready to host Olympics 2036, says sports minister Anurag Thakur

In recent news, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that India will be fully prepared to host the Olympics in 2036. He also highlighted the importance of getting the chance to host Olympics in the country.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made remarks on the intentions of the government to bid for the Olympic Games. This incident traces back to an International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai in 2023.

It is noteworthy mentioning that India has never got a chance to host the Olympics in the past. However, they are keen on bidding to host the games in 2032. Meanwhile, PM Modi did not mention a candidate city during his IOC address in 2023.

In other news, while inaugurating the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Premier League cricket tournament in Ahmedabad, Union Minister Amit Shah said to assume that the 2036 Olympics will be hosted by Ahmedabad. He even mentioned that India aims at topping the gold medal tally in Olympics by the year 2047.

Back in the year 2010, India hosted a multi-sport event under the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Further, the country also hosted the U17 FIFA World Cup in 2017.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said, “For 2036 Olympics India needs to be ready. Organising the Olympics will be a huge thing and India is ready for that. Whenever the bidding process begins, India will certainly bid with full power and will organize the Olympics in India.”

The upcoming 2024 Olympics in August will be hosted by Paris. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is in the race to become the host city for 2028 Olympics.
