India A beat South Africa A in 5th unofficial ODI, clinch series 4-1

Thiruvananthapuram: India A defeated South Africa A by 36 runs in the fifth and final unofficial ODI here in Kerala on Friday. With the win, India A took the five-match series 4-1.

India-A made 204 for 4 in 20 overs and restricted South Africa-A to 168 at the Greenfield International Stadium here. The match was reduced to a 20-over per side contest due to persistent rain.

Sanju Samson scored blistering 91 runs off 48 deliveries, while Sikhar Dhawan made 51 off 36 balls. Skipper Shreyas Iyer scored 36.

Chasing a target of 205, South Africa A got off to a poor start losing the wicket of opener Janneman Malan and skipper Temba Bavuma in the powerplay overs.

Reeza Hendricks top-scored 59 while K Verreynne made 44 for the visiting time.

For India A, Shardul Thakur was the star with the ball who finished with figures of three for nine. Washington Sundar claimed two wickets. Ishan Porel, Rahul Chahar, Tushar Deshpande and Shivam Dube shared one wicket each.

India’s Sanju Samson was adjudged the Player of the Match.

The two teams will now play two four-day matches, beginning on the 9th of this month.
