Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar left the commentary duty midway during the second Test match between India and England after his mother-in-law Pushpa Mehrotra passed away.

As per media reports. the former cricketer flew to Kanpur to be with his wife, Marshneil Gavaskar, and their family on Friday afternoon.

Sunil Gavaskar, who played 125 Tests and scored 10,122 runs and 3092 runs in 108 ODIs, has taken up multiple roles in cricket administration after his retirement. He had also served as interim BCCI president in the past.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued the assault in the afternoon session and worked his way to his second Test hundred (125 not out) as India reached 225/3 at Tea on Day 1 of the second Test The match is being played at Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam.

Brief scores: India 331/6 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 179 not out, R Ashwin 1 not out; Rehan Ahmed 2-57, Shoaib Bashir 2-100) against England.
