Australian women’s Cricket captain Meg Lanning has shocked her fans by announcing her retirement from international cricket. Aged 31, she made her debut for the Australian team at the age of 18 in the year 2010. In her career, Lanning played a total of 241 matches for Australia. This included six Tests, 103 ODIs, and 132 T20 Internationals.

As per Lanning, she believes that it is the right time to step away from International cricket after having dedicated 13 years to the sport. Her decision has left Australia looking for a new captain as they prepare for their upcoming India tour.

Lanning last played for Australia in February during the T20 World Cup in South Africa before taking a pause due to health concerns. This pause was followed by her decision to take another six month break from the sport in the latter part of 2022.

Originally from Singapore, Lanning rose to fame in the International cricket after her debut on December 30, 2010. This was T20I against New Zealand. At the mere age of 21 years old, she became the youngest person to captain Australia in January 2014, replacing Jodie Fields.

During her remarkable career, Lanning led Australia to several major victories, including a memorable T20 World Cup win in the year 2020. She has captained Australia in 182 matches during her career and leaves a legacy as one of the most successful cricket captains.

Apart from steering Australia to four T20 World Cup titles, Meg Lanning has also fetched one victory in the ODI World Cup, and another in the Commonwealth games.
