Nabarangpur: With a new railway line sanctioned between Nabarangpur and Jeypore town in neighbouring Koraput district, the people of the district will soon have their dream of railway connectivity fulfilled.
In a letter received by the general manager (GM), East-Coast Railway on Monday, Dhananjay Singh, the Director (Works) of Railway Board, revealed that the centre had sanctioned Rs 784 crores for the 38 km long Jeypore- Nabarangpur New Broad Gauge Railway Line.
The Government of India has provided the sanctioned amount in the annual budget for 2016-17. Out of the total sanctioned amount, Rs. 664.92 crore rupees will be spent on the construction of civil work for the Broad Gauge Railway Line, while Rs 24.64 crores and Rs. 58.35 crores will be spent on the signal & telecom and electrification respectively.
As per the MoU signed between the Centre and Odisha Government in October, 2016, the state government will provide the entire land free of cost and share 50 percent of the project cost of the Jeypore-Nabarangpur Rail project.
Talking to Kalinga TV, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi said, “As many as eleven new railway projects in Odisha have been sanctioned in the last three years. On behalf of the people of my constituency, I thank Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Union Government for the development of the Jeypore-Nabarangpur Rail project. ”
