Puri: Just four days before the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings on June 25, the axle of Darpadalana, the chariot of Goddess Subhadra, broke down on Wednesday.
The axle of one of the front wheels broke raising questions over the smooth completion of the Car festival this year. To make matters worse, the axle of Taladhwaja, Lord Balabhadra’s chariot, is also suspected to have developed some problems.
District Collector Aravind Agarwal and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) officials rushed to the spot after the incident came to the fore.
The Rath making committee will take stock of the damage and is likely to replace the broken axle of Darpadalana with a new one.
The new wheel and axle has been brought to the Ratha Khala (courtyard for chariots) and the Chief Maharana of Nandighosh is on the spot for verification.
A review meeting chaired by DGP KB Singh is underway to take stock security arrangements for the mega event. ADG, IG and 12 IPS officers are attending the meeting.
