Odisha Police to use drones to keep vigil on Naxals’ movement

Odisha Police will now use drones both day and night to keep a vigil on the movement of the Naxals in the state.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will now use drones both day and night to keep a close eye on the movements of the Naxals in the state. Decision to this effect was taken during a meeting held today under the chairmanship of DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal to take steps to combat the menace of the outlawed group.

Special focus was given on how to conduct the upcoming 2024 election peacefully in Boudh district, where the movement of Naxals are seen. While there is no Naxal movement in Sundergarh district, they are present in 10 districts of the state.

Though the Naxal movement has reduced in Malkangari and Koraput districts, the movements of the Naxal will be monitored as the members of the KKBN (Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Niagara) are still active in the state.

Similarly, the members of the Menpur division are active in Nuapada district. Now, 90 per cent of the Maoists seen in Odisha are from Chhattisgarh as there are only 16 red rebels left in the State. Odisha Zonal Committee is headed by Murali and Modem Bala Krishna. Both of them are members of the CPIM Central Committee, which aims to strengthen the organization in Odisha. The Chhattisgarh Maoists have the latest weapons and they might create problem during the election next year.

The meeting also decided to set up 11 more BSF and CRPF camps in the state.
