Elderly woman trampled to death by wild elephant in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In yet another case of human-animal conflict in the State, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a tusker in Mahabir Road Forest Range under Parjang in Dhenkanal district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jhari Sahu of Jatia village.

As per the report, Jhari had been to collect mushroom from a forest located near her village in the morning when the jumbo attack took place. A tusker which had sneaked into the area last night in search of food pounced on the victim and trampled her to death on the spot.

After the pachyderm attack news spread in the area, angry locals rushed to the spot and staged a protest holding Forest Department officials’ negligence responsible for the attack.

Local Police rushed to the spot and seized the body for autopsy after pacifying the irate mob.

Forest officials also reached the spot and assured that the kin of the deceased will get compensation as per the prevailing government policy.
