Biswa Bhusan Harichandan appointed Governor of Andhra Pradesh

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader from Odisha, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was on Tuesday appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique said, “The President of India is pleased to make the following appointments: Sushri Anusuiya Uikey as Governor of Chhattisgarh, Shri Biswa Bhusan Harichandan as Governor of Andhra Pradesh.”

The appointments of Uikey and Harichandan will come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices, it added.

Harichandan will replace SL Narsimhan, who has been functioning as the Governor for two states-Telangana and Andhra Pradesh since the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

Born on August 3, 1934, Harichandan joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangha in 1971 and became its National Executive Member and its State General Secretary till the formation of Janata Party in 1977.

The advocate-turned politician was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly for five times – twice on Janata Dal ticket and thrice on BJP ticket. He was a minister during the BJD-BJP alliance in Odisha government.

Harichandan was also the BJP state president in Odisha from 1980 to 1988.
