Baripada: In a bizarre incident, a group of ATM robbers reportedly abandoned a costly car after meeting with an accident while being chased by police in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.

Acting on a tip-off, Khunta police reportedly chased and tried to nab the looters. However, the looters drove their car very fast and tried to cross a bamboo bridge over a canal at Ranibandha Gangahar. But as the vehicle could not move forward after meeting with an accident in the middle of the bamboo bridge, the robbers reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled the spot by abandoning the costly car.

Police reached the spot and recovered a gas cutter, spray, face mask and shirts from the four-wheeler. It is assumed that the miscreants were planning to loot an ATM. Besides, their role in the loot of two ATMs in Soro area of Balasore on Wednesday night is suspected.

As the vehicle is registered in Jharkhand, police suspect that they might be an inter-state gang. Further probe into the incident is underway.
