Berhampur: At least five houses of two families were reduced to ashes and one person sustained severe injury in a fire mishap that took place in Bhishmagiri village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district on Friday.
Sparks erupted in the kitchen of one Kora Badatya’s house early in the morning, while somebody in his family tried to light the gas stove to prepare tea. Unaware of the accumulated cooking gas in the kitchen due to a leakage in LPG cylinder, the member ended up causing a massive fire which soon spread to other rooms in the house and engulfed a neighbouring house also.
One person Babula Badatya who sustained critical burn injury in the mishap was rushed to Digapahandi CHC immediately by his family members.
Sanakhemundi Fire Brigade team rushed to the spot and doused the flames after getting intimation.
Fire Department sources informed the gutted property would cost over lakhs of rupees.
