A woman got arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a man by threatening him with a false rape case, police said.

Noida: A woman got arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a man by threatening him with a false rape case, police said.

Similarly, she duped 10–12 people and extorted money from them, Aligarh police had booked her in an extortion case in 2021, they added.

“Nearly 10 days ago, the woman filed a rape case against a man, saying he raped her after giving her intoxicating substances at his residence. After a thorough investigation, police found her claims were false, and she had been trying to extort money from him,” Noida police said.

Police registered an FIR against the woman and arrested her from Sector 39 on Tuesday. “The woman has been booked under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), and 389 (putting a person in fear of accusation of an offence in order to commit extortion).

She was produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody on Tuesday, the police said.
