Section 144 in Mumbai for two days, Check details

Mumbai: Amid Omicron scare, the Mumbai police have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Mumbai on the 11th and 12th of December prohibiting rallies and morchas, procession.

The development came after the state reported seven new cases of the Omicron variant on Friday including a three-and-half-year-old girl. Three cases from Mumbai and four from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Maharashtra is now leading the charts with 17 cases.

The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and it will be in force for 48 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

It has been issued to prevent danger to human life from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 as well as a threat to the law and order situation against the backdrop of violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded,” he said.

Violators will be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions, the order stated.

Also Maharashtra reported 695 new COVID-19 cases and 12 fatalities in the past 24 hours, informed the state health bulletin on Friday.
