Kolkata: Javeria Khanum, a woman from Pakistan’s Karachi, arrived in India on Tuesday to marry her fiance Sameer Khan, a Kolkata resident. Ms Khanum is all set to marry Sameer Khan in January.

She was welcomed by her fiance Sameer Khan and future father-in-law Ahmed Kamal Khan Yousafzai to the beats of ‘dhol’. The 21-year-old woman has been granted a 45-day visa by the Indian government.

According to reports, Javeria and Sameer were introduced to each other five years ago when he returned to Kolkata from Germany and saw Ms Khanum’s picture on his mother’s phone and expressed interest in marrying her. Sameer’s mother sent the proposal to Javeria’s mother in Pakistan and both families agreed.

Javeria Khanum had to apply for a visa to travel to India. The Indian High Commission initially rejected her application twice, and then a global tragedy, the Covid pandemic struck  and thus everything stalled for five years.

“I have been granted a 45-day visa. I am very happy to be here. Just on arrival, I am already getting so much love here. In the first week of January the marriage will be solemnised,” Javeria said

“It is a happy ending and a happy beginning,” she said. “Everyone back home was very happy. I can’t believe I have got the visa after five years,” she added as reported by India today.

Sameer friends from Germany, Africa, Spain, the United States and other countries are likely to attend his wedding.
