IAF inducts four Chinook heavy-lift choppers

Chandigarh: Indian Air Force (IAF) inducted four heavy lift first four CH-47F (I) Chinook helicopters on Monday at at Air Force Station, Chandigarh. The induction ceremony was conducted by Air chief Marshal BS Dhanoa.

The Chinook choppers, which cost about $1.5 billion for 15, will be used for various military purposes including the deploying of troops and machinery at high-altitude locations along the India-Pakistan border, informed IAF.

The helicopters which had come from the US ahead of time arrived in a semi knocked down (SKD) condition at Mundra Port in Gujarat, were re-assembled and tested before the formal induction today.

The induction of these heavy-lift choppers is going to be a big boost for the Indian air force as not only is the Chinook highly manoeuvrable, it can also be operated at any time and in all-weather.

“The CH-47F #Chinook contains a fully Integrated, Digital Cockpit Management System, Common Aviation Architecture Cockpit & advanced cargo-handling capabilities that complement the aircraft’s mission performance & handling characteristics”, tweeted IAF.

“Chinook helicopter can carry out military operations, not only in day but during night too; another unit will be created for the East in Dinjan (Assam). Induction of Chinook will be a game changer the way Rafale is going to be in the fighter fleet”, said Air Chief Marshall to ANI.
